Purchase this patch if you have explored the forest or attended a campfire event.

1. Magical creatures classes are sometimes taught in the forest. Learn about one animal that habitats in the forest. What color is it? What is the size and where does it live? Never disturb a nest or habitat of animal. Create a sketch booklet or draw animals.

2. Identifying animal tracks is one of elements for learning about magical creatures in the forest. Look for animal tracks on a trail with your professor (adult). Never try to track an animal. You can also view tracks in a book or internet. Create a booklet or worksheet of the tracks. Which look similar?

3. Learn more about birds in the forest. You can write down the size, color, special traits and look it up on the computer or refer to our magical creatures booklet. Venture in your own backyard forest to view local birds.

3. Create your own trail mix for your magical forest exploration. What did you place in it?

4. Learn about your patronus animal. Which one did you choose? Examples are: fox, bear, unicorn, deer, bear, dog, otter, horse, rabbit, cat, owl, or dragon.

5. Create a twist on a smore or magical treat and add something different. Name your new creation. What did you change? Example: Cookies and cream chocolate instead of milk chocolate OR add peanut butter.

6. The forest can get dark. Learn how to build a campfire. Have the participants gather small twigs and larger pieces to get the fire built. ONLY an adult should start the fire and maintain it. Show the participants the proper way to put out a fire OR Learn how to use a lantern to light your area or navigate you out of the forest or encase you need to leave the campfire area.

7. Create a craft that relates to the forest. It can be an animal craft, wand, flower related, fairy, or a magical drawing of the forest. The choice is up to you.

8. Attend a forest exploration event, magical encampment, or any event that is forestry related.

9. There are a variety of fairies that can be found throughout the forest. Fairies live near the area that they care for and easily camouflage with their surroundings. Night Fairies are said to be the prettiest fairies of all. They come out at night and collect the "star dust" from the sky so they can fly, also know as "fairy dust". Sprites are small nature fairies. Learn about one fairy/sprite or draw out what you think it would look like. View books or websites for images of forest fairies and sprites. Examples: flower fairies, night fairy, water fairy, earth fairy, rainbow sprite or winter sprite.

10. Unicorns live in forests where there are plenty of food for them to eat. The trees offer them shelter and help them to hide. Unicorn hair and horn dust are used for magical potions. Fairies are their friends. Learn more about unicorns. What do they eat, footprint and what they look like.

11. Get to know your forest trees. Identify 3 different leaves or pine needles. Draw or trace them in your nature book. Use our Leaf identification found in the kit for assistance.

12. Magical wands are made from strong forest wood and magical items. Design your own wand on paper. What wood and magical item did you use? Examples: cherry, willow, walnut, cypress, maple, oak and more. Magical items include phoenix feather, unicorn hair, dragon scale, or fairy dust.

13. Learn how to navigate yourself in the forest. Use a compass or map. To ensure you don't get lost make sure you follow a proper trail or marked area. (for extra design your own forest map)

14. Explore the magical forest by completing a scavenger hunt outdoors. Examples: Find two different trees, tracks, flower, pine cone, spider, rocks, insect, acorn, and a trail.

15. Herbs or flowers are located on the edge or in the forest to create potions. Learn about 1 herb or flower available in the forest. Examples: wormwood, toadstool, dittany, valerian, bitterroot. Refer to our herbology book to learn more about magical herbs and flowers.

16. Complete an outdoor forestry activity of your choice. This can be a craft, food item, or any creative item of your choice.
