Exploring the USA

Requirements (BR earns 2, JR earns 3, CSA earns 4):

1. Learn about the United States Capitol building. Where is it located? What does it look like? 
2. Learn more about the state you live in and its official state items. What is your state flower and bird? Where is your capital located? Do you have any unique places to visit in your state?
3. Visit or research two different places across America such as a National Park, National Forest, National monument OR memorial. Where are they located and what do they look like? Examples: Mount Rushmore, Statue of Liberty, Grand Canyon, Smithsonian Museums in DC, Gateway Arch, Liberty Bell, and more.
4. Who created the first American flag and where? What did it look like and how is it different from today? For extra, color or draw it. (Sewn by Philadelphia seamstress Betsy Ross.)
5. Learn about another state other than yours. Where is it located? How is it different from where you live? What place, building or area would you like to visit?  
6. Learn about one person and how they helped America be what it is today. Such as: inventors, explorers, teachers, leaders, doctors, scientists, architects, engineers, etc.  Examples: Thomas Edison, Susan B. Anthony, Juliette Low, Jonas Salk, George Washington Carver, and William Lamb.
7. Learn more about the Nation's Capital, Washington, D.C. Research three places there you would like to visit in DC. Where are they and what do they look like?  Are the places near each other?  For extra, color or draw them and/or make a list of where you would want to go on a trip. Examples: White House, Washington Monument, National Museum of Natural History, National Gallery of Art, Spy museum, Air and Space Museum,  National Museum of American History, Thomas Jefferson and Lincoln Memorial.
8. Watch a movie, play, or TV show about American sites, history, discoveries, traditions, OR activities. Examples:  National Parks, animals, broadway or theater shows, cooking and singing competitions. **
9. Create a patriotic craft. Examples include: windsock, ribbon streamers, decorating hats or shirts, bracelet kits, and more.
10. Play a game with a USA or patriotic theme.  Examples: Go on a scavenger hunt, complete a word search or crossword puzzle, or learn trivia about America.
11. What is the United States National Anthem? Learn about who wrote it and where? For extra, sing the song or teach it to younger girls.
12. Learn more about ONE of the Presidents of the United States. Where were they born? What number president are they? Where do they live as president?  Who was the first president?  
13. Practice voting on items such as the next place to visit OR what snack to eat. For extra, have a ballot at your next meeting to vote for something.
14. Learn more about the 3 branches of government. What does each one do?
15. Celebrate an American holiday.  What did you do? Examples: 4th of July, Thanksgiving, President's Day, Memorial Day, Veterans Day, Christmas and New Years Day.
16. Be a good citizen and assist your community through community service efforts OR Honor our veterans OR active military by writing letters or cards, making care packages, making valentines for vets, or another community service activity of your choice.
